Welcome to AlexanderAcademics.com. This site is home to the class pages of William Mitchell, David Lee, and Rob Duncan. It will contain notes, labs, and tutorials that go along with the science and math courses they teach.
William Mitchell is currently finishing his 15th year of teaching biology and his third year of teaching physics. He is a 1983 graduate of Alexander Central and a member of Lenoir Rhyne College class of 1988 where he received a bachelors degree in biology with certification in science (grades 6-12) and mathematics (grades 6-9). His interest in nature led him to study biology. William's hobbies of gardening and water skiing reflect his love of the outdoors. He also enjoys reading about current trends and predictions related to business and society. These readings led to the creation of this class-related web site. To relax when life gets too hectic, William puts on some Jimmy Buffett music and takes a mental vacation to the Florida Keys until he is recharged and ready to go.
David Lee is in his 12th year teaching chemistry at ACHS. Originally from High Point, NC, he now calls Bethlehem his home. He was awarded a bachelor's degree at Appalachian State University in 1980 and has recently completed a master's degree in science education through the distance learning program at Montana State University in Bozeman. His graduate research focused on the value of computer-based homework. David has been married for over 13 years. He has three step-daughters and four grandchildren. His hobbies include hiking, traveling, geography, golf, watching sports and reading. His favorite authors include John Grisham, David Baldacci, and Tim Green.
Rob Duncan is completing his 15th year at Alexander Central. He is a 1985 graduate of ACHS and is proud to be working at his alma mater. Rob graduated in 1988 with a bachelors degree in math education from Appalachian State. Two years later he earned his masters degree, also from ASU. Rob's wife of nearly seven years teaches English at ACHS. In addition to working at ACHS, Rob also teaches part time at Catawba Valley Community College. In his spare time he enjoys home-improvement projects, working with computers and reading. His favorite authors include Kathy Reichs, Lee Child, Dan Brown, and Nelson DeMille. If there were a reading requirement for his classes, it would include the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy series by the late Douglas Adams. You can rest assured that when he's at his computer, Mr Duncan, like Mr. Mitchell, probably has some Buffett playing in the background.
